While looking for some other information, I stumbled upon a very interesting document about the first 150 years of education in Middletown. It's long, but worth the read. It documents that our public schools were "Blue Ribbon" at least through 1987, producing National Merit finalists, service academy recruits and the like.

Ya sure do know how to ruin a girls morning cup of coffee. Thanks for the material however I find this such a sad thing to read. I remember the teachers looking over the classroom and it would go silent. Then they would give ya the “LOOK”. They made sure you knew what they expected and you had better produce! They gave piles of homework almost every night to make sure you knew the study material. Whinning wasn't allowed. They didn't seem to care wheather you were male or female, rich or poor, black or white...The demands were the same.

Vivian- been meaning to ask for a long time and just now remembered.
Are you any relation to the Moon's that lived on Grand Ave.? In the 50's/60's, I lived with my grandparents on Grand (between Jackson Lane and Kensington St.), across from Boehny's (sp) greenhouse which is now Dorset Dr. and filled with houses. The Moon's would be Mike, John, Beverly and Marna Moon and the mom's name was Mary. She married Jack Hagen who was in sales at Armco and his daughter was Judy Hagen, the tennis player. Just curious. |
