Journal story.....

City limits time trash can be at curb

MIDDLETOWN — City council revised an ordinance that will more “effectively” deal with garbage cans in the right of way and to provide an alternative method to deal with abandoned tenant property after eviction, city officials said.
Homeowners now can’t put their trash cans out more than 48 hours before they’re scheduled to be picked up, and must remove the trash cans within 24 after pick-up, city council voted last week.
Also, council restructured the eviction process to prevent “set-outs” of evicted tenant’s property in the right-of-way.
Whoever violates the section will be found guilty of a misdemeanor of the fourth degree and will be fined a minimum of $150.
When asked by council if this has been an issue in the city, Law Director Les Landen said he didn’t think so but city staff hopes the changes in the ordinance improve the curb appeal throughout the city.

WOW, EARTH SHATTERING DECISION. THIS RANKS RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE TOP DECISIONS IN THE HISTORY OF THIS CITY. NOW IT'S TRASH CAN TIME LIMITS. ANYTHING TO ENHANCE REVENUE. WAY TO PRIORITIZE THE IMPORTANT THINGS THAT NEED ATTENTION. GLAD TO SEE COUNCIL DEALING WITH THE HIGH PRIORITY NEEDS OF THE CITY. WILL THE CITY HIRE A PERSON, SAY AT 60 GRAND A YEAR TO DRIVE AROUND MAKING SURE THE TRASH CANS ARE REMOVED FROM THE CURB WITHIN 48 HOURS? KINDA LIKE CHALKING TIRES FOR PARKING TIME LIMITS, THEY CAN CHALK TRASH CANS FOR CURB RETENTION. IS THIS LIKE THE PEELING PAINT/PROPERTY MAINT. VIOLATION PROGRAM FROM YEARS AGO? WHAT HAPPENS IF THE PEOPLE ARE GOING OUT OF TOWN, SAY AT CHRISTMAS, TO VISIT FOR THE WEEKEND(OR LONGER) AND THEY PLACE THE CANS ON THE CURB ON A FRIDAY EVENING WHEN THEY LEAVE, TO BE PICKED UP ON MONDAY MORNING? LONGER THAN 24/48 HOURS, RIGHT?

OH,AND LESLIE, A LITTLE TOO LATE FOR THE CURB APPEAL THING BUD.....BUT NICE HUMOR FOR A MONDAY MORNING.

AND.....

"Who takes Mort’s picture?
When Ann Mort, an out-going council member, received her certificate of recognition and drawing of the city building from Mayor Lawrence Mulligan Jr. during Tuesday’s meeting, there was no one to take her picture since she’s the designated photographer. Several city staff members and those in the audience took pictures with their cell phones"

PERHAPS THAT WAS DONE ON PURPOSE.

"Holiday luncheon at course
Ironically, on Monday, the day city officials gave a tour of Weatherwax Golf Course to one potential buyer, city employees held a holiday luncheon in the clubhouse. If the course sells, they may have to find another location for their party."

DID THEY SING? WAS THERE A VIDEO FOR YOU TUBE? I LIKE LESLIE'S SOLOS. ANOTHER LOCATION FOR CITY EMPLOYEES? HOW ABOUT THE PAC WHERE THEY HOLD THE OTHER PROGRAMS? WE TAXPAYERS FINANCED IT. MIGHT AS WELL USE IT......AND, IT'S CLOSER TO THE CITY BUILDING SO THEY CAN GET BACK TO WORK SOONER....JUST KIDDING.
I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.
