Post offices may take names of fallen
For the complete story, click here: http://www.middletownjournal.com/news/middletown-news/post-offices-may-take-names-of-fallen-1395902.html I have been unable to verify the rumor that Councilwoman Mort is polling her campaign supporters to see if any of them have slipped and fallen recently so that she can have the Middletown Post Office re-named after them. |

The problem with naming a post office, street or building after a specific individual is that other people, who deserve recognition also, are left out of the equation. To honor the fallen from the Afghan and Iraqi Wars is certainly a noble cause. However, how does one possibly cover all who sacrificed equally with this tribute? Wouldn't it be better to name the post office by including all who died in all wars in a generic, all-inclusive manner? How about "Dedicated to the men and woman of our nation's wars who sacrificed their lives to preserve our way of life"? Recognition to all in equal terms.
Mike, Councilwoman Mort isn't going to do a thing without permission from the MMF'ers. Not a boatrocker. She isn't going to go off half-cocked and willy-nilly doing things that would elude to individualistic behavior. She is a good servant (of the MMF, not the people) The people running this town depend on foot soldiers like her to do their bidding. She is a plant and is on council for one reason....conduct the business of the MMF joining Becker, Picard and Sir Lawrence the Third of the S.Main St. Lawrences. |

MikeP...Are you saying that MMF told her that the very first thing that she should do after becoming a Councilperson was to re-name Bi-Centennial Commons after her supporter, Knight Goodman???
The problem with naming anything after anybody down at Bicentennial Commons is that the name chosen will never be recognized and front and center because we never use the area nor the AK Pavillion stage anymore. The name will revert to obscurity in a forgotten place. Mort has already made this suggestion, hasn't she? Mr. Goodman seems to be a nice fellow in relation to the occasional articles he writes. Kind of a " folksy, downhome guy" in a business suit. I would also imagine he is a part of the inner circle of friends of the city and perhaps linked to MMF and, if true, takes a little luster off of his persona IMO. |
