Are CDBG Funds and NSP one in the same?

referring to a provision of the

appropriations statute itself, this notice

NSP2 Application:

"As of 2006, the City of Middletown listed current rental properties at just over 9,000 housing units.15 Market projections suggest that the annual renter-occupied housing market should range somewhere between 3,550 and 3,600 units. Middletown currently has over 3,600 subsidized housing units alone without adding additional market driven rental property. We must strive over time to phase out older rental units to be replaced with owner-occupied new construction options. We should strive to bring total rental units closer to the 3,600 units that can be consistently filled by local rental market."

"The Economic Development department reports that companies with higher paying jobs are looking for the more affluent, newer cities with undeveloped land over older, industrial cities. The target geography suffers from older built-out land leading to a lack of spec space which, in turn, makes it very difficult to respond to viable leads. The target geography lacks available large, industrial space with appropriate ceiling height and square footage to be competitive."

 

"Dues to several years of cumulative budget cuts, the City streets in Middletown have not been paved in over 20 years. The Middletown target geography also encompasses or borders 18 brownfield sites totaling approximately 225 acres left from former industrial and/or manufacturing facilities. At an average cost of approximately $2 million each to conduct environmental assessments, remediate and demolish, this represents an unmet need of almost $36,000,000. The closing of these sites over the past few years has resulted in the loss of at least 1,184 jobs in Middletown. In addition, these sites now pose a serious health risk and blighting influence, especially in the low income areas because of their location in areas in historic disinvestment."

 

Pac:  I am amazed!!!  This is exactly what I was trying to warn about when I spoke in OPPOSITION at the publi hearing at the last council meeting.

Pac: MOre importantly, Atkins, Gilleland, Kohler, MMF and company will end up with TENS OF MILLIONS of DOLLARS to spend WHERE EVER and HOWEVER they please via the NSP/CBDG route!  There IS NO limit or checks and balances built into the scam that I spoke against Tuesday night and Council is going along hook, line and sinker!!!
