Some of the homes were not as old as a lot of the houses on Main Street, but were (are) well worth preserving. These homes were located on Yankee Road (up to 4th) and the big homes on Vanderveer. At the time of the formation of the historic district, these homes were in much better shape. Some very prominent families lived on these streets and their homes should have been included in the historic district as well. But, even though these houses have fallen into disrepair, it isn't too late for them. Maybe adding these sections to the historic district would help their situation and bring more attention to the ailing area. It would only help to reinforce what is remaining of the historic architecture in Middletown and would be for the benifit of all. |
