Weekly Update to City Council
from the City Manager

State Issue 2
The Ohio Municipal League has endorsed a "Yes" vote on the expansion of the Clean Ohio program, which is State Issue 2. This issue would provide additional money for local Greenfield and Brownfield projects in cities like Middletown. And it would do so without any tax increases.

Weatherwax Entry Gate Dedication
To be held Tuesday, October 28 at 4 p.m.  The historic gate marked an entry to the original Armco Park – where MUM now sits.  It is now relocated near the entryway of  Weatherwax.

RR Crossings
We are getting some results from Norfolk Southern.  Oxford State Road crossing has been redone; they are working on Manchester.

Property Maintenance
We are beginning to meet with owners of significant amounts of residential and commercial property in town to discuss how we can work together to improve the appearance of some of the key properties.

Public Safety Committee
Reports were well received by the committee on roof repair at the fire stations and expanded police training (thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation).

Transit Connection to Hamilton
We met this week with the Butler County transit group – they acquired the City of Hamilton transit system when they sold out several years ago – to discuss using our system as a match for federal dollars to establish a route from Middletown to Hamilton using their buses.  They approached us with the idea a few weeks ago and we wanted to do some further research on their proposal.   While we all agree a connection to Hamilton and beyond would be great, we want to ensure that we are not limiting our options locally by agreeing to the proposal.  We believe it will work and will confirm this in the next several weeks.
