Weekly Update to City Council from the City Manager

Place Matters

Last week I met with reps from the United Way and the Community Building Institute who have formed a partnership called “Place Matters”.  Currently they are working in three neighborhoods in Cincinnati.  It is a comprehensive rebuilding strategy that may be applicable for an area in Middletown.

Event Insurance Committee

Met last week, working on a recommendation to ensure that special events and the organizers are covered through a separate insurance policy and that the city is protected from liability issues.

Cincinnati USA Partnership

Council Members Ford and Armbruster, and Bill Murphy and I met with Ellen VanDerHorst, CEO, and her staff to review Agenda 360 which has economic development impact for the region. Middletown, through Bill Murphy, is a participant.

Tree Commission

Met with the group last week, along with Jim Armbruster, to discuss goals and priorities for the future.  As with many of our volunteer boards and commissions, there is no budget for the activities.  Thankfully we have committed volunteers who make things happen despite the financial issues.

Budget Meetings

We are commencing budget discussions internally.  With the org. transition, each department head is preparing their new and old budgets, which will give us a great deal of overlap for a smooth transition.

Important Reminders

Joint Meeting with MUM and School Board, Monday night at 6:30 at MUM.

Fire Department Golf Outing - if you are not playing, council members are welcome to stop by in the morning to send the players off.

CM Vacation

I will be out of town the 7-11 of August.  Les will be in charge during my absence.

Events

August 4th        Joint meeting with City Council, Middletown City Schools and MUM – Johnston Hall – Room 142 6:30 p.m.

August 5th        Middletown Fire Department Golf Outing - Weatherwax

August 5th        National Night Out – Damon Park – 5:00 p.m.

August 5th        City Council meeting – 5:30 p.m.
