LEBANON—The economic downturn has affected every level of government. The was the main theme of remarks shared by state, federal, and locally elected officials with an audience of approximately 100 on Friday, August 28.
Featured speakers were Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, State Senator Shannon Jones, State Representative Ron Maag, and Warren County Commissioners Pat South and Dave Young. A number of other officials were invited but declined due to schedule conflicts.
The event, sponsored by the seven Warren County chambers of commerce and Area Progress Council of Warren County, Inc included attendees from a cross section of the county, including business owners, school administrators, city government officials, public library directors, and members of non-profit agencies.
“We wanted to do a combined event by the chambers and the APC, said Arla Tannehill, Executive Director of the Area Progress Council. “Members of every chamber and the APC welcome the chance to interact with our elected officials.”
Officials’ remarks made it clear that much of their energy is being devoted to issues related to the economic recession. One positive note was offered by County Commissioner Dave Young; he explained that Warren County is generally fiscally cautious, and while sales tax receipts are down, the county is on solid ground financially despite the recession.
The seven chambers of commerce in Warren County are the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce; the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce; the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce, the Little Miami Chamber of Commerce, the Northeast Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce; the Springboro Chamber of Commerce, and the Waynesville Chamber of Commerce.
