The use of
basic life support BLS, CPR and AED*s is a standard at the Middletown YMCA. These skills, combined with the use of an AED helped save the life of Tom Brickey. YMCA lifegard Barb Maichele, Jenny Sliger performed CPR and shocked Mr. Brickey twice with an AED, thus bringing Mr. Brickey back to life. Source:Rick McCrabb of the Middletown Journal
An automated external defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic
device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening
cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular
tachycardia in a patient. The device is able to treat them through
electrical defibrillation which hopefully will stop the
arrhythmia. This may help the heart reestablish a normal heart rhythm.
True Middletown Heros: Barb Maichele and Jenny Sliger Maichele and Sliger are heros. I call them heros because they are trained professionals who were able to act quickly and effectively. Barb Maichele is a CPR instructor and an 18 year lifeguard and Jenny
Sliger is a registered nurse and CPR instructor who happened to be
swimming at the Y. Congratulations and thank God you were around.
Putting AEDs in more peoples hands will save thousands of lives. Consider taking a course from the Red Cross.
