Today there is going to be a new thrift store that will open in Hamilton to benefit the Middletown based nonprofit agency, Abilities first. There has already been an unannounced opening but today is the grand opening.
The store is 17,000-square-foot and is at 2290 Dixie Highway which is the former location of Valley Thrift. George Meaney who is the store operator gained a lot of his experience their. Meaney also watches over Middletown's Meandor Thrift store that is located on Roosevelt Boulevard. That building also benefits the agency. They are known for helping the disabled live independently.
There are high hopes for the store since it has struggled a little bit in the past. Originally it was not a thrift store and was hard to develop. J. Thomas Wheeler who is the executive director of Abilties First was pleased with the new store. It will be benefitting Abilities First and the community at the same time.
It is estimated that Meander Thrift will net Abilities First around $200 a month and Family Thrist is guessed to double what they have been doing. The store should be around for another 50 years. They are pleased with what has happened with the company.
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 .m. Sunday.
