Leadership Warren County Class of 2008
TanVan Group assists Warren County Park Board -
Members of the 2008 Leadership Warren County class recently completed their collaborative team project with the construction of The Rain Garden at Morrow Veteran’s Memorial Park. Members of the “Tan Van Group” include Bill Caplinger, Scott Egbers, Tom Harris, Tammy Murray, Gina Ray, Steve Roat and Deane Wiethe.
“Our initial goal was to develop a project to enhance the existing county park system and at the end of the day we were able to help clean the environment, enlist the assistance of community businesses and provide a learning opportunity for students of the Warren County Career Center and Warren County MR/DD” said group member and Morrow resident Tammy Murray.
The project involved the design, fund raising and construction of a rain garden at the westerly end of the existing parking lot at Morrow Veteran’s Memorial Park. The rain garden acts as a natural filter system removing harmful pollutants such as antifreeze, motor oil and excessive road salts out of the storm water run off leaving the blacktop parking area. Cleaning the run off in this fashion keeps the pollutants out of the Little Miami River, a national scenic river. The rain garden also provides food and habitat for wildlife.
The Rain Garden at Morrow Veteran’s Memorial Park was dedicated to the community on August 23rd as a part of the Jamboree in the Field celebration.
The intensive 10-month program, Leadership Warren County, is modeled in the tradition of community leadership development programs nationwide. The Area Progress Council of Warren County Inc., who sponsors the program, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization to plan and promote positive growth and development for Warren County. The Leadership Warren County mission is to create a dynamic network of leaders whose increased awareness and commitment to serve will energize its citizens to shape Warren County's future.
