Thanksgiving is a holiday most families celebrate in November every year. The main dish served on Thanksgiving is usually turkey. Other things dinner may include are mashed potatoes, stuffing, casserole, biscuits, green beans and much more. The most popular desert to have on Thanksgiving is pumpkin pie. Having a Thanksgiving dinner can also be a little pricey. This year the average price for a meal for 10 people is $44.26 which is an increase from $42.26 in 2007 which is also a 5.6 percent increase. The average cost of a 16-pound turkey is $17.63 or about $1.10 per pound. The increase of the price of the turkey is biggest contributor to the increase in the cost for a Thanksgiving dinner.
Other items that have increased this year include milk, pumpkin pie mix, pie shells, rolls, whipped cream, and cranberries. The price for Thanksgiving dinner has increased for the past four years in 2004 it dropped by .6 cents. From 1986 to 1995 the price for a Thanksgiving dinner stayed around the same, while gradually becoming higher.
The price increase affects many families in what they eat for Thanksgiving dinner. Even though a lot of the smaller food items have only went up a couple cents when you add it all up at the end it ends up being a lot.
