On behalf of city staff, I wish you both the best of luck in the future and thank you for being model elected officials. Thank you for your wisdom, for understanding the difficult decisions we need to make and for respectful discourse. When I think about public service, I am reminded of the famous Man in the Arena speech given by President Teddy Roosevelt in 1910. Those who serve in public positions are “in the arena” everyday.

President Roosevelt talked about the importance of public service, putting yourself “in the arena”, rather than simply sitting in the crowd, regardless of criticism, success or failure. Thank you both for your service to Middletown.
