Police
The Middletown Division of Police hosted the Police Canine Regional Trials last week. Officer Jordan, with K-9 Gunner, placed 8th overall in narcotics detection and 3rd in outside detection hides. He placed 20th overall. Officer Meehan, with K-9 Viper, placed 8th overall. Both officers, along with Kettering officer Lambert, competed in a 3-officer team and placed 2nd overall. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the officers. The job of canine handler is difficult and time consuming, yet hugely rewarding. The event was planned and coordinated by Sgt. Andy Warrick, who did an outstanding job. Congratulations to all who had a hand in planning and participating in this successful regional event, held in Middletown. Feedback from the officers who attended was very positive about Middletown and our hospitality!
Middletown Division of Fire (MDF)
This week personnel attended a local workshop covering the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). Since 2001 the AFG has helped communities and their firefighters obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public from fire and related hazards. Specifically for Middletown it has resulted in: firefighting air packs and compressor system, thermal imaging cameras, diesel exhaust systems, station emergency generators and a wellness program for first responders. MDF has been and will continue to be up-to-date on alternative funding sources in order to meet increasing budgetary challenges.
