LIGHT UP MIDDLETOWN PROVES TO BE AFFORDABLE FUN
Light Up Middletown depends on donations received at the entrance gate to keep the drive-through light display running and growing. While other holiday light displays charge specific amounts per person or per vehicle, LUM depends on the generosity of its guests. While specific numbers are not released until the end of the season, organizers report the numbers are up slightly from 2007. After two weeks of operation, every night from 6-10 pm, there have been 5,710 vehicles carrying 19,219 people who have toured the 100 acre park.
The annual hot air balloon glow, integrated within the other light displays drew 531 vehicles and 1,792 people Thursday night, December 11. Balloon pilots inflate their balloons and, by firing their propane burners, cause them to glow in the night. Pilots donated their time and propane to the event and even promised to reappear at unscheduled times throughout the rest of the season.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be receiving small guests at their Santa House in Light Up Middletown from 7-9 pm on Friday and Saturday nights until Christmas.
Light Up Middletown is open every night, regardless of weather, including all holidays through New Year’s Eve at Smith Park, 500 Tytus Avenue, downtown Middletown. Guests from out of town should take I-75 to Exit 32 and follow the signs to downtown Middletown. For additional information call 513-423-1877 or 513-649-4506.
