Nancy Nix from 3rd Ward Holds Neighborhood Meeting |
Wednesday, January 14, 2004 11:38:03 AM - Middletown Ohio |
Tonight a Third Ward Meeting was held at Rosedale Elementary School library. Around 35 people attended this meeting, and I think everyone left feeling that it had been a valuable use of their time. I thank Council members Laura Williams and Noah Powers for being there to support this cause. Also, thank you to Sam Ashworth for his help in planning and executing the meeting.
What became clear to me is the deep frustration residents feel, not only about the pools and about our declining budget, but about the Middletown Regional Hospital project. Some in the room understood the rationale behind decisions made concerning the hospital, but a considerable number of residents are angry about the hospital's perceived secrecy and lack of communications with them. They are also very untrusting of Mr. Thatcher and the money he made off the sale of his property. They also want to know why our local government is donating money to a private institution. We explained as much as we could explain, but at some point, one must just listen. The people there wanted to meet again next month and hear from a hospital official about the reason to move, their financial projections, etc. I'm hoping we can set something up.
Judging by tonight's meeting, I think there is considerable interest among Middletown residents to be a part of the process and to improve our current situation long term. There were many very bright people in the room tonight with great ideas, and some were new faces.
I just felt like passing that along to you. What we're doing is very important, and you should know that.
Thank you, Nancy Nix
