Model Jet Airshow at Hook Field Airport |

By: Rose Morgan These model jet planes entertained at the
local Hook Field airport today. These Model planes were really worth
the visit to the airport. I spoke with the MC who is himself an
aerobatic pilot who said the pilot and plane participation was awesome
for our first show. There were about 45 Pilots registered. Many of them
were from the tri-state area but there were people here 'flying their
hobby' from Ontario, Canada and Missouri and all states in
between.
The pilots were quite friendly and
happy to talk with spectators, fly their planes, and show the actual
mechanisms of the landing and engine systems. There were no novice
pilots for this expensive hobby. The pilots have an average of $6000
to $8000 invested in each plane (one man had 8 planes!!). Costs can go
up to $20000. Building takes 3 to 4 months to complete if you work at
it with determination. One supplier of the jet engines has his business in Cincinnati. Middletown
firefighters had their equipment on the scene as part of the precaution
for spectators. These are jet propelled aircraft that put out heat and
fire.
