Students from Amanda Elementary School took part in the community garden project yesterday at Middletown’s Damon Park.
The school has been working on the project for over a year along with the Amanda Parent Teacher Organization, Amanda Neighborhood Council, the City of Middletown, United Way, Bulls Run Arboretum and the Salvation Army.
The students spent the day planting a variety of vegetables and the garden will be maintained by a group of students involved in a 6 week summer camp. PTO president Amy Evans Told the Middletown Journal “The kids love it, Plus it gives them some pride. We have a lot of pride in our schools and we just want people to see it.”
Walmart donated $2,000 for the project and the Middletown Community Foundation gave $1,000 for the summer camp.
Amanda Elementary School servers children from preschool through fifth grade and has the motto “Learn what we can, Share what we know and Plant seeds that grow.
