MCSD Business Manager, Frank Chapman updated the Board of Education at their meeting on 4/26. According to Chapman, we are making progress. > > The Departmental Design Teams and Building Design teams have completed their meetings. > > Creekview is one of the first schools that we are planning to build, along with Taft/McKinley and Wilson/Roosevelt, and the Amanda remodel. > > Creekview Elementary and Taft/McKinley Elementary have each completed the first of two neighborhood design team meetings. Their final NDT's will be next week. > > Neighborhood Community forums for those two schools are scheduled for May 13 and May 12 respectively. The forums will provide opportunities for those living in the schools' attendance areas to have input on the architectural style of the new buildings. > > Each building will follow the same process. We are currently in the scheduling process for the Roosevelt/Wilson and Amanda Elementary NDT meetings. > > Building locations > > Creekview will be built on the same property it now occupies. > > McKinley/Taft: We would like to locate a new elementary school, replacing both McKinley and Taft, on the west side of Barnitz Park, facing Main Street. This plan will require the use of land parcels currently owned by the Barnitz Foundation and approximately 350 feet of Barnitz Park. Discussions with representatives of Barnitz Foundation are ongoing. We have been given the assurance that the land will be available. > > Roosevelt / Wilson: We closely evaluated options around both Wilson and Roosevelt, most of which involved the use of either Wilson Park or portions of Sunset Park. It is our understanding that the City of Middletown has stated that they plan to close the pool at Sunset Park. The most favorable option is to locate the school on the pool property. This would save the city the cost of demolishing the pool and it would also preserve Sunset Park as one of the gemstones in the city park system. For this alternative to work we would need a decision by the City Council very soon in order for our design work to proceed without delaying the project. This option would not require the purchase of additional property. > > **Please note: The pool will be open this summer and closed after this season ends. > > Rosedale: The land that we own at Rosedale Elementary will not be adequate for the planned new construction. The final site plan is yet to be determined, but conceptually, it would require the use of the southern portion of the adjacent Dowling Park. This would free some of the land on the north end of our current land for use as parkland. > > Wildwood: Like Rosedale, the current site of Wildwood Elementary will not be sufficient for the planned new Wildwood school. We will need to use the Wildwood Park land. > > ***As is currently the case, the exterior recreational areas and equipment at all of our new schools will be available to the general public and will supplement the usefulness of adjacent parklands. We plan to work closely with representatives of the park board in the planning for all of our exterior recreation areas where these swaps are proposed. To provide for that, their representative will be invited to serve as a member of the Neighborhood Design Teams for the affected schools. > > If you have any questions or comments, please contact me. > > > Debbie Alberico > Community Relations / Communications Specialist Middletown City > Schools > 1515 Girard Ave. > Middletown, OH 45044 > Phone: 513.423.0781 > Fax: 513.420.4652 > dalberico@middletowncityschools.com
