Registration is now open for the FREE summer Safety Town
program which is available only to children entering Kindergarten. The 2008
Safety Town classes will be held at a new location – Amanda Elementary
School, 1300 Oxford State Road, Middletown.
This summer, “Safety Town” will celebrate 31
years of pre-school safety education in the Middletown Community.
Children will be instructed in pedestrian, vehicle and school bus safety.
Dealing with strangers and fire safety will also be discussed.
The weeklong sessions are available either morning or
afternoon. Officer Mike Davis of the Middletown Division of Police
teaches the sessions which include classroom instruction, films and driving
pedal cars in a simulated village in the gymnasium. The children are also
fingerprinted for parents. Thursday is a two-hour class so the children
experience actually loading, riding and exiting a school bus and includes a
trip to the fire department where they visit the fire safety house. Each
week’s class ends with a graduation ceremony.
To register, call the Southwestern Ohio Safety Council,
co-sponsor of the program, at 513-423-9758. Classes are available, June 9
through August 8.
