On Tuesday, August 2nd the Middletown Division of Police hosted the “National Night Out” against crime event at Sunset Park. It was MPD’s 11th annual event to promote community involvement to encourage people to come out and meet all aspects of public safety in Middletown. The event was sponsored by Target and Kroger and drew an estimated crowd of 1,500 people. The event also included climbing walls and inflatables, compliments of Stumpf Climbing Walls, dunking booth, free hot dogs, chips and drinks, the Skyline hot dog eating contest and free “Night Out” merchandise. The Middletown Division of Police K-9 unit demonstrated tactics to apprehend a suspect, followed by the Special Response Team’s apprehension of an aggressive suspect take-down in an automobile.
The Middletown Division of Fire, Safety Council and various area agencies played a huge part in the success of the evening. Toward the end of the night, Target gave away four bikes for its raffle and back-to-school kits for the event that also featured an appearance by Cincinnati Reds mascots Mr. Red, Gapper and Rosie Red. It was a very successful family/community oriented evening for all.
