Officer Meehan completed his Region #5 United States Police Canine certification PD I, June 10th through June 14th in Kettering, Ohio. This certification consisted of obedience, agility, article search, suspect search, and apprehension with and without gunfire. This is a unique event in that canine handlers from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana compete and share their knowledge with each other, as well as assist each other with training issues.
Communications Supervisor Shelly Meehan, who donated her time as scorekeeper, was also officially voted on and elected as a scorekeeper for Region #5. She handled the paper work of over 36 canines being judged and had all individual scores posted in a timely fashion.
Bill Hollister, a retired Middletown Officer, was Chief Judge and announced his retirement from judging. Bill Hollister has been involved with canine since 1969 training several canines throughout the area as well being a canine handler for Middletown Police Department and he is currently our trainer.
