From Judy Gilleland - City Manager
Last September, MPD began investigating a group of individuals involved in copper thefts. These individuals are responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage to properties in the area.
The investigation, headed by Detectives Winters, Swartzel, and Bush culminated with the arrest of two individuals Sunday, February 5, 2012, bringing the total number of arrests so far to four individuals.
The group has been breaking into construction sites in Butler County, Warren County, and Montgomery County as well as vacant properties in the area. They have broken into the Finkelman Auditorium at Miami University in Middletown (currently being remodeled), the construction site of the new Edgewood High School in Trenton, a school construction site in Miamisburg, and the old K-Mart building on Roosevelt Blvd.
The investigation is continuing. Kudos to the Detectives for their diligence on this case.
