There might be some billboards on the East End of Middletown going away when the new development of the expansion around Atrium Medical Center and Renaissance District. On Wednesday December 10th the Middletown Planning Commission rejected the request to permit two billboards on a monopole on the northeast corner of Ohio 122 and Union Road.
The final vote from the commission was 4-3. The staff recommendation was to deny the request for the billboards. Porter Advertising who requested for the billboards has owned the property since 1984 where the billboards are now located. This land is owned by Richard P. Peterson and he believes that the land is worth more than what it is being offered and does not want to sell it.
The zoning code for Middletown only allows billboards in I-2 industrial areas which are in the city’s south end and also where the traffic flow is less than the area near I-75. Greg Pratt who is Peterson’s lawyer announced that the billboards are used for local residents. Some of which are Grace Baptist Church, American Savings and Loan and Lebanon Citizens National Bank.
There was a representative from Atrium Medical center that spoke in opposition to the request. Peterson might now think about appealing the decision to the Middletown City Council.
