Middfest Business Conference kicked off this year with a welcome from Middletown Mayor Larry Mulligan, Jr. He stressed the importance of international relations and the desire of Middletown to establish trade relationships with Mongolia. Adriane Scherrer and Don Bryant also gave speeches welcoming the business representatives attending the conference.
Ms. Scherrer has been working for the past year via the internet, phone, writing letters and personal contacts to help bring this conference together. With the help of Mr. Al La Porta, former ambassador of Mongolia, there have been many important alliances formed with Mongolian business. The 58 representatives from Mongolia have backgrounds in tourism, Chamber of Commerce, government and retail.
Tours of local business have been set up so that formal exchanges can be made between the countries. Some of the tours will include Atrium Hospital, Wright Patt Air Force Base, a construction site and manufacturing. Friday morning there will be a breakfast with 115 attendees. The goal of the breakfast is to seat Mongolian business representatives with similar local business in hopes of establishing exchanges of ideas and commerce.
