Today it is becoming more popular for students to study abroad. At Miami University they are ranked 25th nationally among the comparable universities in undergraduate participation.
There were 1,421 students from Miami University in 2006-2007 who earned academic credit to study abroad which turned out to be 37 percent of Miami undergraduates going overseas by the time they graduate. That increased 11 percent from the previous year. Miami University is also the only Ohio doctoral institution in the top 40 for undergraduate participation in study abroad.
Among the nationally ranked doctoral institutions Miami was ranked 22nd in total number of study-abroad students which is undergraduate and graduate. This year is the largest number of students Miami has ever had study abroad. For the past 13 years Miami has been one of the top 30 nationally ranked doctoral institutions for both the total number of students and undergraduate participation.
The more popular non-traditional places students have been studying are China, Argentina, South Africa, Ecuador, and India. The total number of countries students went to from Miami in 2006-2007 was 41.
More than half of the students who study abroad are choose short-term duration programs, which include summer, January term and programs that are eight weeks or less.
