Texting is the new popular way of communication with cell phones. It is becoming more and more popular and now teachers and sports coaches are starting to use it with their students. One school in particular is Madison Local Schools. They are trying to put a ban on texting within the school system.
The Madison Local Schools board began discussing the possibility of banning texting early this week. If they would pass this they would be the first school to locally to ban the popular communication form off limits.
Texting can be used for various different reasons within the school. For example coaches text all their players if practice has been changed or had a cancelation of a game. That makes it easier than having to call each player and tell them what is going on.
Since the school board has just recently started talking about the ban on texting there hasn’t been a decision made on what the punishment would be. There may even have to be different punishments for the students, coaches, and teachers. They do not have a ban on other forms of communication such as social networking internet sites, but they all do agree that personal communication is unnecessary.
So far they have not been able to find any other schools in Ohio with a ban on texting but there have been two schools in Mississippi that Madison’s board has been looking into. |
