LIGHT UP MIDDLETOWN READY FOR SEASON 12

The 12th annual Light Up Middletown drive-through light display in Smith Park/Downtown Middletown is set to flip the switch and welcome guests on Friday after Thanksgiving, November 26, 2010.  Every night, 6-10 pm, regardless of weather, including all holidays, the lights will flicker on animated light displays along the circle drive around the reflecting pond in the 100-acre park at 500 Tytus Avenue, Middletown, Ohio.

This year, four new displays will be added to those from past years.  Santa’s sailing ship, a fishing Rudolph, diving penguins and a very large, pink elephant helping Santa will all be included.  Children of all ages enjoy the sea serpent, the tunnel of lights, Santa’s workshop and many, many more.

Admission is by donation, as usual.  Guests are asked to make a cash donation of any size at the gate to help defray the costs of new displays and park upgrades.

“An unexpected anonymous $2,500 gift has been a big help in upgrading to LED lights in many displays,” said Flo Randall, chairwoman of the event.”We don’t know who gave the money but we certainly appreciate it.”
 
Special events this year include the Holiday Balloon Glow on Tuesday, December 7, weather permitting, 7-8 pm.  Dr Mark Frazer and other regional hot air balloon pilots will inflate their balloons and become a part of the giant light display.  In case of inclement weather, the glow will be rescheduled.

On Saturday, December 18, 7-9 pm, Girl Scout troops led by Rhonda Brush ,from the Middletown area will sing holiday songs near the Santa House.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting with children every Friday and Saturday 7-9 pm through December 18.  Photos are available with a donation of $10 per photo or two prints of the same photo for $15.
