Kohl's doubled the size of the Monroe Internet Distribution Center this year to handle the increased volume that will be generated by the full inventory online.
Last month, Kohl's Corp. shut down its commerce website for several days, affecting schedules at the Kohl's Internet Distribution Center.
The reason for the temporary shutdown was that the company was upgrading their site, www.kohls.com. Thousands of items were added that have been sold only in Kohl's physical department stores. Kohl's online will also add other items not available in stores, including plus clothing sizes, electronics, baby accessories, Vera Wang's clothing line and Rachael Ray's Food Network like of kitchen tools.
Kohl's plans to have everything in the company inventory online in time for the holiday shopping season. Kohl's first began selling online in 2001. Since then Internet sales have grown to $170 million in 2006, when the company reported total revenue of $15.5 billion.
