City Manager’s Report by Judy Gilleland
Ms. Gilleland started her report by saying there was a misleading headline in the Middletown Journal Sunday regarding Section 8 housing in the city. The city will be establishing a waiting list for the 1700 section 8 vouchers, not increasing the number of section 8 vouchers.
The street improvement committee will meet Thursday at 4PM and will be discussing plans for street improvements and funding options and plans to report on the to City Council at the June meeting.
Ms. Gilleland commended the park board and Berachah Baptist Church for their work at Damon Park and congratulated three city employees on their retirements, Lieutenant Don Owens (40 years on the police force), Barry Taylor (30 years at the water treatment plant), and Mattie Freeman (28 ½ years in the water billing department).
Twenty city staff members from various departments took a bus tour of Middletown to view property maintenance and code enforcement issues. There were discussions about problematic areas. This is an area of emphasis for the city council for 2008.
The council voted unanimously to permit a banner across Broad Street for the Broad Street bash in June. More discussion about signs and banners will follow at a later date.
