History of the Middletown Fire Department

This video from David Von Bargen chronicles the beginning of the Middletown Fire department.

In 1848 the first official 130-man volunteer fire company was started. Previously, the city was protected from fire by citizens' bucket brigades.

The all volunteer fire company served Middletown up until June 23, 1882, when the Middletown Fire Department was officially founded.
