by Bill Rogers This video from David chronicles the beginning of Middletown, and how fire fighters played a role in the village from the start. In 1848 the first official 130-man volunteer fire company was started in the village, which was protected from fire by citizens' bucket brigades previously. It served Middletown up until June 23, 1882, when the Middletown Fire Department was officially founded. The city purchased their first motorized fire engine in 1914, and built more firehouses and procured more fire engines and ladder trucks progressively since. The Local 336 is also proud to call Middletown 'The Birthplace of the OAPFF'. The Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters is the largest organization representing Fire Fighters in the State of Ohio, representing more than 23,000 active and retired professional fire fighters. The OPAFF has over 240 local affiliates across Ohio.Discuss the Middletown Local 336 Fire Fighters Association on the MiddletownUSA Blog Forum.About: David Von Bargen is a Middletown, Ohio firefighter as well as the official videographer for the Middletown Fire Local 336, the proud union in which all of the firefighters in our city are members.
