There were 46 people from coast to coast that applied for Middletown’s vacant economic development director position. There is a wide variety of candidates that applied for the job. There were 42 men and 4 women 18 being from Ohio and also including 12 other states.
City Manager Judy Gilleland announced that they hope to hire someone by January 1st. She is now in the process of going over all of the applications and narrowing it down to five candidates. The candidate that gets the job will be replacing Bill Murphy. Bill resigned earlier this year to take a job in Cincinnati.
Being the economic development director you are in charge of implementing the programs and plans for the city’s economic revitalization, developing and leading job growth strategies through recruitment and retention, acts as liaison between the city and various community organizations, and overseeing the small business development assistance program, works to help businesses expand or relocate to the city, works with business community and supervises a full-time program manager.
There were many applicants from the Middletown area. Some of them include Doug Williams, Rodney S. Smith, Mike Robinette, John Fonner, Maria Collins, James Banker, and Jung-Han Chen.
