PRESS CONFERENCE: THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 11 A.M., SunCoke Plant Site
CITIZENS GROUP TO HOST NEWS CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS
STALLED MIDDLETOWN PLANT CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
State & local leaders to comment on possibility of lost jobs, environmental misinformation
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – “Citizens Supporting Butler County, Middletown and Monroe” will be hosting a PRESS CONFERENCE on THURSDAY, APRIL 30 at 11 A.M. at the SunCoke Plant Site on Yankee Road in Middletown concerning the SunCoke plant construction project and the Monroe City Council lawsuit that has halted that construction.
Scheduled speakers include:
· Richard Jones, Butler County Sheriff;
· Don Dixon, Butler County Commissioner;
· Middletown Chamber of Commerce Officials;
· AK Steel Officials; and
· Robin Piper, Butler County Prosecutor.
Among many topics, the press conference will address the multiple jobs being put in jeopardy with a lawsuit by the Monroe City Council, the council’s illegal use of taxpayer money to fund the lawsuit, and the unfounded environmental concerns being raised over the SunCoke plant. Post-conference interviews will be available with all speakers.
SunCoke Energy has been approved by the E.P.A. to construct a state-of-the-art, $340 million “green”-friendly coke plant in Middletown. The plant would bring to Butler County, Middletown and Monroe 700 temporary construction jobs and 75 permanent factory jobs – while ensuring the survival of the Middletown AK Steel Plant and Middletown, which Forbes Magazine recently selected as one of “America’s Fastest-Dying Towns.”
A small group in neighboring Monroe and the Monroe City Council have halted the construction with a lawsuit based on unfounded environmental concerns. In doing so, the City Council entered into an unauthorized contract with legal counsel, making all initial payments to the attorney illegal, and also hired legal counsel by motion, excluding their citizens’ most valued right in the process — the right of referendum.
“Citizens Supporting Butler County, Middletown and Monroe” invites you to cover this event.
