Chamber Leadership Program Changing |
Monday, January 12, 2004 4:55:30 PM - Middletown Ohio |
The 2004 Chamber Leadership class will experience a totally revamped program. The 20 year old leadership training project is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton. The program has been completely redesigned by a group of local business leaders from among the 500 who have graduated from the program in prior years.
To meet the needs of twenty-first century businesses and their employees, Leadership Steering Committee Chairperson Saundra Pearce, said, “We realize the fast pace and high demands of today’s business world mean that training programs must often be squeezed into an already over-loaded work day. We are making the Chamber Leadership Program more streamlined and with shorter sessions to meet those needs. Also, there will be a shift in focus from an overview of the communities to leadership skill development ? “
Instead of the former program which involved full day sessions over a nine month period, the new program will hold half-day sessions during March, April, May and the first week of June. All program sessions will be held on Tuesday mornings.
Subject matter will be directed more to personal and leadership skill development.
The March 2, 2004 session will be on taking a Personal Inventory, led by the long-standing mentor and skill builder of all past leadership classes, Kent Bradshaw from Cumberland Group.
The March 16 session will be on building good communication skills with Dan Sack, owner of The Fourth R of SW Ohio and presentation professional from Cumberland Group.
A two-part session on March 23 and 30 will be led by Dick Slagle of Ultimate Concepts who will help each participant hone their presentation skills.
April 6 will cover ethics and board member responsibility with presentations by attorney Jim Papakirk of Pratt & Singer Co., LPA and Father Civille from Holy Family Parish..
On April 20, students will learn to read financial statements from a management perspective. Larry Powell, partner with Clark, Schaefer, Hackett & Co will lead that session.
May 4 will cover government and business with students learning how government affects them and how they can change government.
The May 18 session will offer an overview of opportunities for leadership in both the business world and in the community.
The final session, on June 1, 2004, will be a team building session with Kent Bradshaw and a celebration/graduation brunch.
