Submitted By: Deb Morrison
The First Annual Rolling Thunder "Celebration of Our Veterans" held at the VFW Park in Franklin Ohio got off to a rather wet start. The POW/MIA Awareness Ride that was planned for Saturday July 25, 2009 had to be cancelled due to the downpour and for safety. Rolling Thunder members Joe Snider and Deb Morrison received a proclamation from the Mayor of Middletown at the City Council Meeting on July 21, 2009 which he read and declared July 25, 2009 POW/MIA Awareness Day in Middletown.
Rolling Thunder honored WWII Veterans at a Ceremony at the park in the afternoon, and Middletown’s own John Kiesewetter who served at Guadal Canal during WWII received an American Flag tha. t was flown over the Capitol building and a certificate from Rolling Thunder President Curt Cobler Mr. Kiesewetter who was accompanied by his family will turn ninety four years old in August, told me that, he was honored to be asked and also to be able to come to the ceremony. The VFW Post 7596 Franklin Ohio saluted our fallen soldiers with a gun salute and the playing of taps.
The Chained Eagles Displayed their wall of remembrance with the names of all the POW/MIA’s from Ohio listed on it along with some photos. They held a vigil at their memorial on Saturday evening. There was plenty of music for the event, great food vendors, and clothing and patch vendors.
Rolling Thunder Chapter 11 is looking forward to the second annual Celebration of Our Veterans to be held next year at the same place.

I was present and had the privilege of meting Mr. Kiesewetter and family and it was an honor just being there. Rolling Thunder has made their mark all over the US and I am so proud that I was once one of them. Chapter 11 from Dayton, OH will always be the greatest. I am extremely pleased they took over a very worthy cause, which once was called S.O.V.A. (southern American Veterans Gathering) and now call it a "Celebration of our Veterans" Salute to all our soldiers serving and continuing to fight for our freedom..... Please keep them in your prayers to return home safely. GOD BLESS AMERICA ` HOME OF THE BRAVE ` LAND OF THE FREE!!!!
