Thursday, August 6, 2009 was the opening of the Cincinnati Premium Outlet Mall in Monroe and even though the economy is not the greatest, it did not stop people from coming out to shop and enjoying all this mall has to offer. MiddletownUSA.com was there for the ribbon cutting, which took place a little after 9:00am Thursday morning.
The new 400,000 square-foot upscale outlet center is home to 100 designer and name-brand outlet stores offering an impressive variety of merchandise including designer and name-brand apparel for women, men and children, shoes, fashion accessories, high quality leather goods, housewares, gifts and more.
Shoppers will enjoy a single level outdoor village with architectural details that create a pleasant, upscale atmosphere. While pedestrian courtyards are outdoors, there is sufficient coverage to provide all-weather shopping comfort. Individual outlet stores are reminiscent of boutiques found in the finest shopping districts of the world and the “racetrack” design is easy to shop.
The Monroe mall has been a hot topic for those living in Middletown, “why not here” has been the main question? But in reality it is here, as far as jobs go. The mall has brought 850 to 1,000 jobs to the area. Many Middletown residents have found employment because of the Monroe mall.
I spoke with David Smythe, one Middletown resident that works at the food court in the new mall and he told MiddletownUSA.com before the mall he was having a hard time finding a job, now I work full time 6 days a week. “Monroe or not the mall gave me a job, I live in Middletown and that’s where I spend my money,” Smythe said.
Like it or not the mall is open, it’s in Monroe, and the opportunities it brings for those looking for a job, affect Middletown too.
