Middletown's 5th annual Prepare Affair was Saturday, November 12th and was our biggest yet! The combined efforts of People Working Cooperatively and The City of Middletown Community Revitalization Department have resulted in growing success each and every year. This year more than 116 volunteers registered in advance to rake leaves and clean gutters for more than 30 senior and disabled homeowners in Middletown.
In addition to meeting with the Girl Scout leaders in the Middletown area, working with The Oaks Community Church outreach group, and posting the event on our intranet, a posting was placed on our City's website, the local AARP community calendar and the new local radio station, WNKU community calendar. WNKU also donated promotional air time.
The Girl Scout troops added a fun element for the girls by making a contest out of the event, calling it "The Amazing Race". That theme was heard by PWC and WCPO television, which followed up with a segment on them.
The Prepare Affair continues to bring hope and comfort to those homeowners who can no longer do some physical activities. The volunteerism is growing and it's contagious. You just can't put into words the warmth, the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment in the eyes of the volunteers, youth and adults. It is just what our citizens need during these difficult times. A big thank you to Subway on Verity, Little Caesars and Gold Star Chili at Engle's Corner, Dillman's and GFS for donating food and beverages to feed the volunteers. Thanks to all involved in the project! Above are a few pictures of volunteers enjoying the event:
