Monday, February 23, 2004 9:30:40 AM - Middletown Ohio |
Committees are being formed, sponsors are being sought and those who wish to offer goods and services are beginning to contact The Chamber of Commerce, organizers of the 2004 Ohio Challenge Hot Air Balloon Festival in Middletown. In 2003, a new festive event was presented in Middletown at the insistence of the community that had hosted the U.S. National Hot Air Balloon Championships in the early 1990s. The Ohio Challenge, a smaller but equally as exciting and enjoyable three-day event was presented to rave reviews by the more than 54,000 people from 24 states who attended the event. Chairman of the 2004 Ohio Challenge, Dan Sack, owner of The Fourth R of Southwestern Ohio and long time community leader, said, “We will be building on the very successful 2003 event and are planning an even more exciting three days for our guests.” Approximately 30 hot air balloons are being invited to fly the twice daily competition events on July 23-25, 2004 at Smith Park in downtown Middletown. Food and art and craft vendors will be on site, along with a carnival ride area, several displays throughout the park and entertainment on the outdoor stage. Evening balloon glows and other balloon-related activities add to the summer festival atmosphere. Admission will again be free to those who walk into the park from area parking spaces. There will be a small fee for those who wish to park on site. Anyone who wishes to volunteer for a balloon event committee or may be interested in providing a booth selling food or arts and crafts may contact Kathy Venturella, Chamber Events Coordinator at 513-422-4551 or email to kathy@mmvchamber.org. The event maintains a website at www.ohiochallenge.com. #### Ann Mort
