The 39 nights of the 2012 Light Up Middletown will entertain an expected 65,000 visitors to the Smith Park fantasy light display in downtown Middletown, beginning the day after Thanksgiving, November 23, and running every night from 6 pm to 10 pm through New Year’s Eve.

Admission is by donation at the 14-year-old event held at 500 Tytus Avenue. Guests set their own price of admission. Light Up is open every night, including holidays, regardless of weather conditions.
Continuing a Light Up holiday tradition, local hot air balloon pilots will present a balloon glow on Thursday, December 6 from 7 to 8 pm (snow/rain date will be December 13).
The volunteer Grandpa Gang began in mid-October erecting the 60 light-displays, each with several components, in the 100-acre park.
Grants from the Middletown Community Foundation and the Perry Thatcher family along with donations made at the Light Up entrance tunnel have been used to purchase LED bulbs, new displays, to start a fund for future building expansion and make improvements to the park for all to use.
