Had a nice young man stop by in the neighborhood soliciting registered voters to sign a petition. It appears Shaddocks Pizza is going for their Sunday liquor license. Doesn't bother me that they want to expand their business capabilities so I signed. We struck up a conversation because I was interested in where young people are as it relates to the current state of affairs in the country and, specifically, the unemployment handout from Biden that seems to be preventing workers from pursuing the multitude of jobs open now. He told me that many in his age group are not pursuing jobs now because the pay is too low to start. I asked him how much he thought he should be making just walking in the door with no experience. He told me more than what is being offered in the $10 to $13/hr range. He thought it should be more like $15 to $20/hr. I suggested that was a tad bit too high for flipping burgers behind a grill or taking an order at the register. He told me the employers should pay a decent wage that would supply enough money for a nice lifestyle making the house/car payments with some leftover deposable cash to prevent living from paycheck to paycheck. I told him what I encountered in my 48 yrs of working and I told him good luck finding that situation as the employers need to make a profit to invest back in the business, satisfy the major stockholders and to create new jobs with pay and benefit packages. He just didn't get the concept so the conversation ended quickly. Tell me something...Why do these young people feel so entitled to freebie handouts and not think they have to work from the bottom up to attain more money? They all want to be the boss just walking in the door for the first time. Incredible crap they have been fed. In short, what the hell is wrong with these kids nowadays?

I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.

Aside from the fragmentation of media and this kid probably getting all his news from like-minded kids on FB or instagram, I question whether the school systems even teach the concepts of capitalism or entrepreneurship anymore. And I doubt the topics of socialism or communism are taught with a critical lens showing the major errors in those systems.

Was tempted to respond to your post - but after reading that last sentence...it must have been a rhetorical post. :-)
It's sad - these kids are FED THIS BY THEIR TEACHERS, EDUCATORS, ADMINISTRATORS AND GOVERNMENT. That's where it starts - that's where it festers - that's where it escapes the bubble of incubation and leaps out into the wilderness at age 18.... ...the difference between now and then (well, the 30 years since I left the cult of education) is that WE WERE EXPECTED TO GROW UP and as a result of that growing up WE LEARNED AND REALIZED HARD WORK IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS! Those who don't work hard eat boxed macaroni and cheese. Those who do work hard eat caviar and dine with Robin Leach. Those who don't work hard subsist off other's people's work. Those who do work hard bask in the fruits of their labor. Those who don't work hard and expect people to pay them the same wage as those who do are thinly veiled communists. Those who do work hard expect nothing for free, freely participate in the economy by starting companies, creating jobs and putting other hard working people to work! Our education system is succeeding...at something. So much for not responding! :-)
