In other matters, the commissioners are
also expected to approve a $35,000 aviation consulting agreement with CDM
Smith, Inc. on Thursday, to study operations at the county airport, Hook Field
in Middletown and the airport at Miami University in Oxford. Randy Quisenberry,
director of Assets, Purchasing and Projects for the county said this will be a
phased process and the initial work should be completed by May 6.
“This review is to enhance understanding of
the options for and the implications of modifying the business model currently
being employed for the management of the Butler County
Regional Airport,”
Quisenberry said.
“The potential for cooperative efforts to
improve efficiencies which may exist between the three airports will also be
reviewed. Cooperative efforts may include, but are not limited to, sharing of
resources, coordinated management models, collaborative marketing efforts, and
a county-wide strategic plan for growing the business at the airports.”
Originally there was talk of having Middletown chip in to
help pay for the consultant. With the county’s fixed base operator contract set
to expire on June 30, Administrator Charlie Young said the county needed to get
a consultant working quickly, so they didn’t ask for contributions.
“This is a study we really need to have
done on the county airport, we need it done quickly to enable us to make some
very short-term decisions,” Young said. “Middletown
isn’t facing that same short-term decision.”
