MIDDLETOWN — Andrew Globke has already become one of Middletown High School’s elite wrestlers and he still has his entire senior season to look forward to.
In last weekend’s Franklin Invitational — the Middies’ first competition of the season — Globke recorded his 100th career victory, joining Andrew Borgstrom and Scott Pergram as the only wrestlers to reach the milestone.
“To be honest I didn’t really think about it,” said Globke, who reached the century mark when he defeated Valley View’s Charlie Bullock in a third-round match last Saturday. Globke went on to win the 160-pound tournament title.
“I knew going into the tournament I could get there, but I was just more worried about the match,” added Globke, who now has a career record of 103-33.
He needs 36 more wins to break Borgstrom’s record mark of 138, which he set in 2009.
Borgstrom was a two-time state qualifier, and Pergram is Middletown’s only state champion (1988) who finished with 111 career wins.
