why just football?
Shouldn't a program like this benefit ALL extra-curriculars?
Still--the consumer makes the choice, and that is how it should be.
Maybe there should be a community-wide business effort involving many other local businesses and the Chamber that benefits ALL programs and schools within the district.

I could'nt agree more Spider. Community wide support through businesses of all school activities is a great way to regain the pride that this town use to have. Only problem with the chamber is Billy Triicky. He back peddles when it comes to the schools. He has personality conflicts with certain administrators. We all do, but he makes his issues personal.
This might be something to investigate and discuss further!
Count me in!

Neat idea. I bet the other coaches could get this set up if they wanted. Just grab a reloadable card from the coach and you give them money every time you shop without too much hassle.

Monroe utilizes the same program for it's football team. Coach Krause started it there. He is a smart man.Middletown should just recognise the effort and say thank you.

Hardly, Mr.Haller.
ALL extra-curriculars are struggling, with football probably struggling the least.
IMO Krause sold himself too cheaply.
A 4% kickback is nothing, since this is based on pre-paid gift cards(correct?).
Good guess is that at least 4% of the purchased $$ won't be redeemed.
Kroger pockets this.
Imagine a community wide effort involving MANY OTHER local businesses who would very much like to help out also UNDER SIMILAR TERMS. Struggling local businesses SHARE their extra sales with the entire educational spectrum. Everyone wins(businesses-schools-students-ALL activities--not just a sports team.
This isn't Monroe, and Middletown has a much larger variety of businesses to involve, many more schools and a diverse group of extra-curriculars.
We are struggling academically, and need the motivational/financial boost in those areas more importantly.
HS sports are wonderful, however sending our children off with a better balanced education and expanded extra-curricular experience without the stress of the financial burden is far more valuable imo. Most of the city's students are severely cash-strapped, and it is very demoralizing for parents to tell their children that they can't afford to fund their child's activities.

Fundraisers can buy jerseys and equipment, but if you are saying there is not enough funds for academics, then Middletown needs to stop voting down school levys.

I'm with Spider on this one.
Also, the Middies have not been agressive fundraisers. I have NEVER been asked to buy ANYTHING. I found out about the last automobile raffle (a few years ago) by accident when looking for a MCSD web site. (I also bought three of the raffle tickets, and even after that I never heard from them again.)
I probably won't get one of the Kroger cards, but only because we don't spend much on groceries (Probably less than $30/week, excluding alcohol and tobacco), and there are only 200 cards available. If someone finds that, after a time, there are NOT 200 other people in town that spend more than that on groceries and that are willing to help the Middles, let me know. I would be pleased to take one if it ends up being a matter of 4% of our mere pittance versus nothing.

Good call Spider! Everything from Sports to the Arts needs help. This would a small and painless way for the community to help. There are many students who could miss out on once in a life time opportunities without such help. My wife and I have paid for many students to do activities, including our own.
