Just read in the Journal where Mark Baker was replaced with Scott Kerr, former coach of Purcell-Marian, for the Middletown basketball program.
Where did Baker go and why did he leave the program? Between football and basketball, Middletown can't hold on to any coaches for any length of time. They all claim they are eager to take over a "program with tradition" (although I question where the excellence and tradition in sports has gone the last three decades) but they never stay very long. Was he asked to leave, with some hidden politics involved, or did he leave for greener pastures on his own? |

Mark Baker moved up the ladder to become AD of the Dayton public school district.
Definite upgrade Funny how no locals have liked any of the last few coaches yet all immediately improved their positions Ronai was fired after going 18-5 beating undefeated #1 Moeller and #3 Lakota East and being named SW Ohio coach of the year--immediately hired to be AD at Toledo St John( the Moeller of N Ohio) Andrews left to become coach at Taylor College Jan Indiana Now mark baker Otten became state champ football coach at Hilliard Davidson Another coach is now a recruiter for West Point And here we are again: |

Thanks for the info Spider.
Looks like Middletown is just a stepping stone for bigger and better things in the coaching ranks. The "tradition" no longer holds anyone here for very long. Gone down a notch or two over the years as to the quality of the team fielded in B-ball or football. No longer dominate in any sport. The rest of the once "cow pasture" burgs have caught up with us in more ways than the sports scene. Chip Otten went on the coach Coldwater, a perennial state champ. How about the guy (don't remember the name) who coached Middletown football and went to Canton McKinley or Krause, who went from Monroe to Middletown to Fairfield and seems to be having more success now. How about Chris Wells going to the small college coaching position. Any success as yet there? The days of the "Jack Gordon/Paul Walker" coaching tenures seem to be over around here. |
