Five applied for the position. Two are retired "double dippers" including a past Middletown school employee- Norris Brown. Before making the selection, I would hope that the school board and others included in the search would communicate with the school systems where these people came from and ask questions as to their performance and the performance of the school system under their guidance. I would also suggest they check for any stories from the newspapers in their respective communities as to how the community perceived them and how much excess baggage they acquired in that community. Perhaps a trip to the applicants communities to talk to "average Joe citizen" to get their opinion on the ex super would be informative as well. I'm sure that if the Newark people asked the Middletown people how it went with Price, they would have a different perspective versus what Price has told them and what the Newark school officials are telling the public. These "superintendent applicant reviewers" must start to learn to be more thorough in their screening of candidates so as not to repeat the failures of the past.

Vietvet !! The board would never listen to you because YOU make to much SENSE !! That's exactly how it should be done but you and I know it will never happen. Prominent people in a political position that have the illusion of power have no common sense. That my friend is a fact. Again I hate being negative, but the board is going to choose whom ever best fits the boards ideas, they are not concerned with John Q. Public,if they get voted off the school board they'll just run for city council.

How could the board ever listen to Vet. He is too busy to get involved. He only hopes that the board reads these posts. Again I say to you, you have to get off your A#@ to be heard.

A coincidence or well planned strategy ? Did Brown and board have any knowledge of an illness when they appointed him last month ? Was this a way for Brown to be on the payroll while he recuperates ?
Goodbye school board members, your rule is about to end in the next election. You've pulled one to many stunts.

Did Mr.Brown pass a physical before being hired?
Was one required?
Any pre-existing medical conditions on his application?
At least he has excellent health insurance.

Ok, what's the prognosis. What is the estimate? Will we have a new super before the temp gets better? Is it bad luck or something else? |

You need to ask the secretary of the assistant superintendent because I think the secretary of the superintendent isn't allowed to speak for the assistant superintendent.
Isn't government grand! Administratively Grand! |

Check out the positions within the city government. Set up the same way. They've got Directors, Managers. Asst. Managers., Supervisors, Team Leaders - all before you get down to the actual workers. Why, they've got more paper-shufflers in any given department than old Procter & Gamble had when I was there. Alot of high paid, glorified information passers, sending info. up the line and back down the line. Same thing could be accomplished by having the darn manager communicate directly with the field personnel. You don't need 5 "managers" to manage 3 or 4 workers per dept. Looks like we have the same thing in the schools. Don't need an Asst. Super. When the Supers not in the office, just train one of the many Directors to fill in. Let's see, you've got the Director of Learning, Curriculum, Student Affairs, Hallway Monitoring, Car Lot/Student Parking, Thursday night weiner roasts, Tennis Court facilities, and the Director of Student Wearing Apparel to choose from. (Did I leave any Directors out) And don't forget the admin. to support each of them as I'm sure they have a crushing paper load to deal with on their job.

In the Middletown chapter of the "good ole boys" club thats how it's suppose to work. Directors, managers, assistant's to the assistant's,and so forth.
Wait until they set up the "bullet train commission",I'm hoping for a directors job on that.

What does an interim superintendent do anyway?
Its like there is no vested interest other than if we get a 'good guy' who would work hard, run the school district and get the word out about schools. |
