So according to a facebook post, according to the FBI rankings Middletown has the second highest crime-rate in the state. With a 1 in 11 chance of becoming a victim of a crime. So not only do we have the amazing improving school system, we also have this to hang our hats on. Maybe next year we can be number one?

14 MOST DANGEROUS CITIES IN OHIO

SEPTEMBER 18, 2014

Ohio Most Dangerous Cities

What are the most dangerous cities in Ohio? To get the lowdown on the cities in Ohio that are the most dangerous with the highest crime rates, we consulted the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report. Our rankings are based solely on the data publicly released each year by the FBI. A crime is a crime, so we took both violent and property crimes into account when compiling our list of Ohio’s most dangerous cities.*

We realize that this topic is inherently controversial in nature and hits close to home. We are aware that there are many different ways to present this data, but when compiling this list we chose to consider not just murder rate, but both violent and property crimes. Check each city listing to get a general idea of the city’s ranking in terms of just violent criminal offenses. Only cities with violent crime rates over 5.0 and populations over 10,000 were included.

Other cities of interest: Property crime data for Toledo, OH was not included in the 2012 FBI Crime Report. Toledo ranks #3 when considering only violent crimes and has a population of 286,020.

Note: We use a standard computational formula to calculate our crime rates. This same formula is used by various state government criminal justice departments to calculate crime rate.

VIOLENT CRIMES + PROPERTY CRIMES = TOTAL REPORTED CRIMES

TOTAL REPORTED CRIMES / POPULATION * 1000 = CRIME RATE

*Only cities included in the 2012 FBI UCR with populations of 10,000 or higher and violent crime rates over 5.00 were considered for our rankings.

I bet most of the crime in Middletown is isolated to only few neighborhoods in the city.

Livability.com recently posted the results of the livability of all American cities over 30,000 population which includes Middletown. The top 100 of 600+ cities examined did not include Middletown. I feel certain that Middletown was among the 100 worst.

You can go onto the city's website and view all the police reports. They separate them between accident (traffic) reports and offense (crime) reports. This morning I looked at the date range of September 1st through September 21st for offense reports only. There were 525 offense reports, which works out to 25 per day.

34 locations had more than 1 incident report. One of those locations was the police office where citizens walked in to make a complaint. The location with the most complaints was 601 N Breiel Blvd, which is Middletown High School (15 offense reports, or 2.8% of the total). The next most was 2900 Towne Blvd, which is Walmart (7 offense reports, or 1.3% of the total). That means that of the 525 offense reports, they were spread out among 464 unique locations, and 430 of those locations had only one report each.

There was a wide variety of reports, from a missing backpack at the high school up to Rape, Suicide and Felonious Assault. Only two for prostitution (by the way, if those reports are indicative of anything it would appear that the going rate for a BJ in Middletown is $20). Here's a breakdown by type (I combined some of the police report categories that are similar such as "Bar Disturbance" and "Drunk," or "Suicide" and "Attempted Suicide," and "Drugs" and "Overdose."

Theft / Larceny - 110 reports (21% of total)
Domestic Dispute / Violence - 67 reports (12.8%)
Public Disturbance - 48 reports (9.1%)
Vandalism - 31 reports (5.9%)
Burglary / B&E - 29 reports (5.5%)
Drugs - 28 reports (5.3%)
Unruly Juvenile - 19 reports (3.6%)
Simple Assault - 17 reports (3.2%)
Bad Check / Fraud - 14 reports (2.7%)
Missing / Found Person - 12 reports (2.3%)
Vehicle Theft / Recovery - 12 reports (2.3%)
Suspicious Person / Vehicle - 12 reports (2.3%)
Drunk - 11 reports (2.1%)
Misc. Traffic Complaints (Parking) - 11 reports (2.1%)
Suicide / Attempted Suicide - 10 reports (1.9%)
Animal Bites / Complaints - 9 reports (1.7%)
Harassment - 7 reports (1.3%)
Stolen Bike - 7 reports (1.3%)
Found Property - 6 reports (1.1%)
DUI / DWI / OVI - 5 reports (1.0%)
Rape - 4 reports (0.8%)
Child Abuse / Neglect - 3 reports (0.6%)
Robbery / Purse Snatch - 3 reports (0.6%)
Found Dead Body - 2 reports (0.4%)
Solicitation - 2 reports (0.4%)
Weapon Complaint - 2 reports (0.4%)
Felonious Assault - 1 report (0.2%)
Sexual Assault - 1 report (0.2%)

Additionally, there is a code called Miscellaneous Complaints. There were 42 more reports (8.0% of all reports) that were listed under this. Most could probably be categorized elsewhere but it would require each report to be opened individually and that would take far too much time the way the city's website is set up.

Adding up everything that could fall under theft of some type, there were 181 reports (34.5% of the total). Adding up everything that could be considered a violent crime, there were 51 reports (9.7%). Drugs and alcohol categorized reports accounted for 44 (8.4%), though I would imagine that drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in many more of those other reports. Sexual offenses were a total of 7 reports (1.3%).

Well didn't they just have a big prostitution bust? Maybe they are lying low (opps, poor choice of words) for a few days.
