Having just finished writing about the City of Middletown blocking MiddletownUSA.com from access to the official city website, I am reminded of these great words:
“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.” Abraham Lincoln See the full story here.

Perhaps someone should remind city hall that the "official city website" does NOT belong to them, the employees of the City of Middletown. It belongs to us--the TAXPAYERS of the City of Middletown!!! It was developed with, and is maintained by, OUR employees, with all expenses (including their salaries) paid for from OUR tax money!!!
It is, in essence, a PUBLIC DOCUMENT, and the citizens CANNOT be blocked unless there has been some egregious misuse of the site, malicious tampering, or some violation of a published "terms of use agreement". Please note that the above is my personal opinion only, that I am not an attorney, and the above is not intended as legal advice. Before legal action is initiated, be sure to seek the counsel of a competent attorney licensed to practice in the appropriate jurisdiction.

IMO,it is not you MUSA administrators. It is participants like myself and others here, who constantly offer opinions that aren't necessarily flattering to upper level city employees nor shed a positive light on how the city is operated/decisions made. The upper management at the city building still can't stop the city employees from going home and reading this forum on the home computers. Being on this site while at work is no doubt a work stopper also. Just wondering why it took them this long to figure that out and remove the site from the employees. Perhaps they found out that too many of them were reading it and "hearing the message from the other side" and they weren't happy about that. Wouldn't be the first time the city (nor the Journal) has played the censorship game.
We have the same blocks where I work. Some subjects searched will cause a screen to pop up with "Access Denied" as the information police have installed a censorship block with regard to certain subjects....and believe it or not, there is still that occasional person who gets nailed for porn on their computer. It is investigated and before long they are terminated. It is a crime that you have been targeted by the city for providing a place for free expression and interaction of ideas. It also doesn't surprise me that the "my way or the highway" management technique, used by the city, has been forced on the city employees either. All JMO |

Narcissism rules at the highest levels of city government. The mantra of these few senior self-entitled bureaucrats is, "governing by the chosen few with benefits for the chosen few."

I was out of town when this was posted, but I do believe that we are fully blocked from all online city services. Including any safety announcements, etc. After reading this I am outraged. I have been operating my business within city limits for over 26 years. We have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes to the city. And no one had the good sense to contact me to tell me this was going to happen. I wonder what Les Landen has to say about this? To be sure on Monday I will be calling him.

SpiderJohn -
Your curt response to Vivian Moon's post tells us so much about you. Aren't lower income households the mainstay of your Sav-A-Lot plus Dillman's operations? Enough said, Steve.

I wonder how many S8 landlords and tenants were interviewed by HUD this past week? In a few weeks we will learn HUD's assessment of the MPHA. Will there be legal and financial implications resulting for the city? Again, thank you Vivian for your willingness to seek out and share what is really happening here.

Yes Mike, that's what we're saying. We believe the city meant to only block their employees from blocking access to MUSA but in doing so also blocked anyone on the same network as MUSA from accessing the city's network.

wow!! they really need to undo that and just tell their employees if any is caught logging on MUSA they will be shot on the spot or they could hire you guys from MUSA to uncross their wires so it just blocks them from seeing MUSA while working if they can still get on MJ while working its just to keep them bored....

The City of Middletown has not blocked anyone from accessing the website nor is it blocking employees from accessing middletownusa.com. The ci.middletown.oh.us domain is no longer updated/used. I will contact Time Warner and see what could be causing the issue.

Troy, Thanks for the prompt reply and the great news that there may simply be something wrong on Time Warner's end. Though I am confused by your statement below.
From outside our network it appears that the above address is accurate and updated. See below screenshot from AT&T connection. |

Troy, The site does not resolve if we visit ci.middletown.oh.us or cityofmiddletown.org. Also, no one from within the city's network (that's we've been able to verify) is able to get on MiddletownUSA.com. We've verified this from different departments within the city. If the city is not actively blocking access we 'd love to work with you to get this issue resolved. -Adam Lewis

I misspoke about the ci.middletown.oh.us domain. I keep it working so legacy posts/links will still work under the new domain name.
As for the connectivity issues I have created a ticket with Time Warner to look into the problem (our trace routes to middletownusa.com die 1 hop off our router) so hopefully they will have it resolved soon. Troy

Thank you Troy! Glad to see the city actually working with a local business instead of against it.
