Here is the scenario....a person has a lengthy criminal record (all petty) and has been before Judge Wall so many times it isn't funny. This person is on welfare, food stamps and social security at a very young age.Has never had a job and no desire to find one.Middletown police are at his residence no less than 3 times per week mostly for petty calls. This person is also running a theft ring with bicycles & lawnmowers as the prefered item's to steal.Police are aware of the situation and know this person very well but yet he continues to escape arrest. He was also involved in a recent B & E where all the stolen items were found in his house but, again he managed not to get arrested.(And he was also identified by the home owner)My question is why Judge Wall is letting this person and others off the hook when they appear before him ?? They always declare they are indigent and therefore Wall dismisses any and all fines and they always walk away without paying anything. This is not one instance, this is many, many times just in the past 6 months. Why are these people (and yes it's actually more than one in the same household) allowed to get by with crime ?? Is it time to get Judge Wall off the bench ?

Hermes,
I don't think that the Judge has much choice. We have a limited amount of space in our jail and it is usually filled to capacity, yet they have to save some room for those who must be jailed due to state law (for example: spouse beaters). I discussed this in another thread: http://www.middletownusa.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4640 |
