Looks like, in some ways, things haven't changed with regard to budgetary considerations for the city.
"The increase as explained by C.H. Campbell, city auditor, who prepared the figures, is due to a rising trend in cost and salaries everywhere" RISING TREND IN COST AND SALARIES...... "Receipts from the amusement tax to be handled by the city as of October 1, do not appear on the budget at this time." I WOULD IMAGINE THE AMUSEMENT TAX COULD BE APPLIED TODAY TO EACH OF US AS WE ENJOY WATCHING THE OPERATION OF THE CITY. THIS COULD BE A TAX I WOULDN'T MIND PAYING. AFTER ALL, WE ARE ENTERTAINED BY THE ANTICS OF THE CITY LEADERS, RIGHT? "Other estimated receipts including balances are; conservancy $14,706.36; street maintenance and repair from license fees and tax $39, 707.64; gasoline tax to street repair fund $53,702.81" LOOKS LIKE THEY HAD AN ACTUAL STREET REPAIR/MAINTENANCE PROGRAM BACK THEN. ALSO LOOKS LIKE THEY USED THE GAS TAX TO HELP PAY FOR IT. WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT IDEA? "Largest anticipated item in the expenditures as usual will be for the police protection afforded the city and that department has bee allocated $115. 000 for personal services ($5,000 more than last year); and $15,000 for other expanses." AS IT WAS BACK THEN, IS THE WAY IT IS NOW.......THE LARGEST EXPENDITURE PERCENTAGE IN THE BUDGET IS FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYEES. MENTIONS POLICE BUT NOT THE FIRE PERSONNEL COSTS. THE ARTICLE DOESN'T MENTION ANY INSTANCE WHERE THE CITY WAS SEEKING FED MONEY TO HELP MANAGE THE BUDGET. LOOKS LIKE THEY WORKED WITH WHAT THEY HAD, DIDN'T OVERSPEND AND ACTUALLY FIGURED IN A "CUSHION FOR OPERATIONS UNTIL NEW APPROPRIATIONS ARE MADE".. HMMM, COMMON SENSE USED HERE. |

I'm so proud of my hometown and what it has become. Recall 'em all. Let's start over.
